About Gordon Munro
Gordon was born in 1992 in East London, South Africa. He grew up in Port Elizabeth and completed his schooling there as a young man. He spent the next two and a half years as understudy to artist Paul Munro, receiving training in landscape and figure studies. Gordon started painting professionally on 22 July 2013. He sold everything he produced to Johannessburg based Art Dealer, Contat Art.
Gordon is a keen rock climber and surfer. He spends most of his time climbing in the mountains around South Africa and captures visual images which he reproduces on canvas. He enjoys the “magical process” as he calls it, where a blank piece of canvas is transformed into a visual image. This image represents a visual moment in Gordon’s life, a moment that Gordon says he can’t express in words. His paintings are expressed in small, intimate, carefully controlled brush strokes. Compositionally well balanced, excellent unity and subtle rhythms. All executed in soft hues. He is obsessed with achieving an accurate representation of his subject, striving to capture every detail. Gordon has been a keen sportsman. Has achieved provincial colours in full contact kickboxing, completed numerous open water diving courses and became a rescue diver. He enjoys surfing and has crossed the dangerous line into free solo rock climbing. Gordon currently resides in Cape St Francis, South Africa.
